The Department of Economics established in the year 1955 with a B.A Degree Course has been in the forefront in ensuring total quality in higher education by delivering better value to all the stakeholders.The department started its Post Graduate Degree Programme in 1965 and has a plan to upgrade the deaprtment as leading centre in Economics Research in near future.
The department has been organizing myriad programs for the benefit of students, teachers and community at large. The department conducts several capability enhancement programmes for overall development of the students. Over the years the department has been producing good academic results securing University Ranks in U.G and P.G Programmes. The second batch made history with achievement of First Rank in undivided Kerala University to which the college was then affiliated. The students secured First Rank in M.A Economics in the University during 2002 and 2005, secured second Rank in 2006 and 2011 and Secured Third Rank in 2017. For B.A Programme, students secured Third Rank in Economics in the year 2006, Second Rank in the year 2008 and Second Rank in 2018.
During the syllabus revision in 2017 the department have chosen Mathematical Economics as a Choice Based Elective Course in addition to Core Course on Introductory Econometrics. This will help the students in exploring opportunities in higher education in leading National Higher Educational Institutions and ensure employability.
