HISTORY

Department of Commerce started in 1955 pioneered commerce studies in the eastern part of Kerala. It was affiliated to the University of Kerala when the first batch of B.Com course was started in July 1955 with 22 students and two teachers. The department became a centre of postgraduate studies in commerce in 1965. It was approved as a research centre in Commerce by the Mahatma Gandhi University in July 2000. In 2004 – 2005, the department celebrated its Golden Jubilee. The Department is well known for its academic performance among commerce and academic community all over the state. It is the biggest department in the college with more than 700 students and 25 teachers.

MILESTONES IN THE PATH OF PROGRESS

1955 July         : Started B.Com.

1965 July         : Upgraded to a Postgraduate Department by starting M.Com.

2000 July         : Approved as a Research Centre in Commerce

2000 August   : UGC Sponsored B.Com. Vocational (Computer Application) started

2005                : Celebrated Golden Jubilee

2007 January   : Recognized as a satellite study centre in ICWAI (CMA)

2012 July         : Started three more self-financing programmes:

B.Com Model III- Taxation, Office Management and Secretarial Practice and M.Com. Finance
