Innovative Computer Association of  Nirmala

ICAN imbibes the hopes and aspirations of the students of MCA, Nirmala. Over the years it serves as a perfect training ground for students to experience leadership opportunities, to build relationships within teams, defining identities, to delegate tasks and achieve common goals effectively in a creative and collaborative environment. It also provides an opportunity to improve and display effective communication and interpersonal skills by promoting healthy interaction and sense of fraternity among students.

BCA Association Inauguration

The inauguration of BCA association took place on 21st August marking a new beginning of activities for the academic year 2024-25.
The event officially commenced with a welcome address by Ms Preethy George ,Course Coordinator BCA followed by presidential address by Principal Rev Dr Jestin K Kuriakose. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Arun Jose, Corporate Trainer. The event was blessed with outpouring of felicitations by Bursar Fr Paul Kalathoor, Prof Saji Joseph, Self-financing Administrator, and Ms Sherry O Panicker ,HoD Department of Computer Science.The event ended up with a motivational session by Mr. Arun Jose.

BCA – Industrial Visit to UST, Cochin

Department of Computer Science – BCA organized an industrial visit to UST, Cochin,on 14/8/2024.66 students along with 2 faculty members visited the campus. The purpose of this visit was to provide students with an opportunity to gain practical insights into the working environment of a leading IT company and to understand the application of theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios.

Upon arrival at UST’s campus in InfoPark, Cochin, we were welcomed by the UST team and given an introduction to the company’s history, mission and values. We were then taken on a tour of the facility, where we observed various departments in action.

During the visit, we had the opportunity to interact with UST professionals from various departments. They shared their experiences, and provided valuable advice on career development. The session was highly interactive, with students asking questions about the technologies used, project management and career paths in the IT sector.

The visit to UST, Cochin, was highly informative and provided students with a clearer understanding of the IT industry. It offered a unique opportunity to witness the functioning of a leading IT company firsthand and reinforced the relevance of our academic studies in the professional world.

TechKnow-’22

Annual International Lecture Series, TechKnow-’22, was organized by the department on 03/12/2022  and 17/12/2022. The Lecture series comprised of four sessions on

  • “Application Architecture and Development” by Mathew Panicker, Senior Technical Manager, Netcracker Technology Corp. Bangalore.
  • “Micro service Application design and Development ” by Ms. Jessy George, Technical Lead, Netcracker Technology Corp. Bangalore.
  • “Software Testing and Career Opportunities” by Mr. Abraham Panicker, System Analyst, IBM, USA
  • “Transforming to a Software Professional – to be the one that matters” by Ms. Anu Thomas, Manager, EY, Thiruvananthapuram.

Industrial Visit

Annual Industry Visits provide students with an insight into the real working environment and workstations, giving a look and feel of the IT industry. The visit includes Corporate Presentations, Faculty Walk and Q&A sessions with highly experienced personnel.

 

IT EXHIBITION

Department of computer science BCA organized an IT exhibition on 25th and 26th September 2023. The exhibition was named as ‘NITE 2K23’. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Nipun Varma, program manager of UST Kochi. It was open to all students of our college and students from nearby schools and colleges. Students from various colleges such as Santhigiri College Vazhithala, Ilahia College Pezhakkapilly, Newman College Thodupuzha, BPC Piravom participated in our programme. Also students from Nirmala Public school Muvattupuzha, St.Sebastian’s HSS Anickadu, Nirmala Higher Secondary School Muvattupuzha and St.Augustine’s girls School Muvattupuzha visited our exhibition. The exhibition started at 10 am and continued till 4 pm.

During exhibition students of our department presented working models like Clapping Hand Sensor, Robotics, Driver Sensor, and LED Bulb Operated by Keyboard. Besides these, there were several stills models like E-waste model, Chandrayan Lander, Computer Topologies, generations of Computers, Phishing web. Our principal Prof. Dr Thomas K V and vice principal went around looking at the different models designed by the students and assessed the description given by the students. Apart from the models, there were special activity games and a documentary section so that everyone could try different things. The exhibition opened our eyes towards the fact that technology is making it a better place for us. The event was a great success and around 5000 students participated in the exhibition with their teachers.

 

Inter Department Poster Designing Contest

On the occasion of International Yoga day, Department of BCA conducted Inter departmental poster designing competition on the theme “Yoga In a frame” on 21st June 2022. Abijith Babu, 2nd year student of B.Sc Botany won the first prize.

 

E-Revive(E-waste collection)

Department of computer Science BCA organized an E-Waste collection on 16th July 2023. The programme was named as ‘E-REVIVE’. We signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with MSH E-waste collection, Erattupetta for five years. Through this programme we collected unusable electronic waste from 150 households of Nirmala Valley and Nirmala Nagar residence associations with the aim of responsible consumption and production for sustainable development of our country and conservation of nature. The event was a great success and around 30 students and 4 teachers were participated in the programme. Through this initiative we raised 10K rupees and we decided to give the received amount as scholarship to deserving students of our department.

Intercollegiate IT-Fest

            The Annual National Level IT Fest Cameo 2023 was organized by the association on 31/01/2023. 900 students from 40 colleges participated in various events in online as well as offline mode. Online events : Technical Quiz and Web Designing , Offline events: Coding, Treasure Hunt,  Spot Choreography and Word Hunt.
