“Departmental Delight: Periodic Day Celebrations Spark Joy with Games and Puzzles Galore!”

The National Periodic Day celebrations held on February 7, 2024, and inaugurated by Dr. Jyothish Kuthanapillil, were a vibrant tribute to the elements and chemistry’s significance. The event featured periodic table reciting competition, engaging games, quiz and puzzles that tested participants’ knowledge and problem-solving skills.

   

Brushing Brilliance: Navigating the Horizon of Surface Coating Innovations with Dr. James Manikath

On January 22, 2024, the Chemistry Department had the privilege of hosting a compelling and insightful lecture by Dr. James Manikath, Technical manager, Luxury Paints, Australia, on the topic of “Innovations and Startups in Surface Coatings: Chemistry and Processes in the Manufacture of Paints.” Dr. Manikath, an industry expert with a wealth of experience, delivered a comprehensive presentation that delved into the latest innovations and emerging trends in surface coatings. He highlighted key advancements in the manufacturing processes of paints, shedding light on cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices.

   

Rev. Dr. Mathew Thottiyil Memorial Lecture

Rev. Dr. Mathew Thottiyil , was one of the pioneers who accelerated the growth of the department. Renowned for his knowledge in Chemistry and humane qualities, he led the department to great heights. The Mathew Thottiyil Endowment Lecture took place on December 7, 2023, . Dr. Soney Varghese, Prof. Department of Material Science and Engineering, NIT Calicut, served as the resource person for the event. The lecture focused on “Liquid Crystal Materials for Information Display,” delving into advancements in this field. Attendees gained insights into the latest research and applications in liquid crystal technology for information display purposes.

INFINITENE – Chemistry Association Inauguration

The Chemistry Association Inauguration held on November 2 was a highly successful event marked by the esteemed presence of Chief Guest G. Anilkumar, Prof. School of Chemical Sciences, MG university Kottayam. Following the inauguration, a series of cultural events showcased the talents of students in dance, music, and drama, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.

   

World Ozone Day Celebrations

On September 15th, in celebration of World Ozone Day, our department hosted a series of engaging activities to promote environmental awareness. These included a poster presentation competition, a seed collage competition, a bookmark-making competition using natural materials, and a word puzzle competition. Additionally, as a heartfelt gesture, we crafted seed bombs, made from clay, soil, and seeds, and gifted them to our teachers to emphasize the importance of environmental stewardship. The event was a resounding success, fostering awareness and creativity while conveying our collective responsibility to preserve the ozone layer and protect our planet.

   

Intercollegiate Project Presentation Competition- ‘Incendio 23’

The Intercollegiate Chemistry Project Presentation Competition, held on August 21, 2023, was a resounding success, serving as a platform for degree students from various colleges to showcase their innovative chemistry projects. The competition aimed to foster scientific curiosity and provide an opportunity for participants to share their research, insights, and discoveries in the field of chemistry. Each participating college selected their most promising projects and presented them to a panel of esteemed judges and fellow students. After rigorous evaluations by our panel of judges, the winning projects were selected based on criteria such as innovation, scientific rigor, and presentation skills.
