MUSH ROOM CULTIVATION

A mushroom is the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus. Mushrooms are being used as food and medicine. Their cultivation on extensive scale can help solve many problems of global importance. Edible mushrooms contain a high percentage of protein, all indispensable amino acids, and vitamins B-complex and other biochemical compounds. Consumption of mushrooms slows down the spread and effect of cancer, heart disease and HIV/AIDS by boosting immune system.

APICULTURE

Beekeeping (apiculture) is the maintenance of honey bee colonies. A beekeeper keeps bees in order to collect the honey and other products including beeswax, pollen, and royal jelly that the hive produces, to pollinate crops, or to produce bees for sale to other beekeepers. Natural honey is sweet, pleasant smelling, and delicious. It can also be artificially and naturally flavoured with nuts and spices.

Tissue culture commonly refers to the culture ofplant tissues. Tissue culture can be used to develop plant saplings for cultivation.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Information technology has a vital role in the field of life science as it helps to extend its scope. Knowledge in IT helps us todevelop methods and software tools for storing, retrieving, organizing and analysing biological data. As an interdisciplinary field, bioinformatics combines computer science, statistics, mathematics and engineering to study and process biological data.

FLORICULTURE

Floriculture, or flower farming, is a discipline of horticulture concerned with the cultivation of flowering and ornamental plants for gardens and for floral industry. The development, via plant breeding, of new varieties is a major occupation of floriculturists.
